Linocut Printmaking: Conceptualizing with Positive & Negative Space
Each design is drawn, carved, inked, and printed by hand. In addition to visualizing an image form, creating and developing a print requires unique perspective on light and dark, positive and negative space. Is an image better represented by carving out the detail, or by carving around it? Is there balance between heavy/dark space and bright/open space? How is shape, line, and movement communicated by removing medium? Consider both what’s there and what’s not there in printmaking designs.
